Old Sheffield Machete, may I sharpen it?

I found an old Sheffield Machete at the flea market for 6 bucks, I figure another good tool can't hurt. My question is how ticked off will the purest collector geeks get if I sharpen it up and put some Osage Orange scales on it. :) Even at top dollar it only appears to have a $20 value with no sheath, the poorly ground edge, and the warped plastic handle.

Why the heck not?!

It's not a collector grade piece or anything. Just an old machete in need of some TLC. I say go for it and post some pics!

NO YOU MAY NOT.

All kidding aside, go for it. If anyone says not to, it's craziness.

Were I you I'd wrap it carefully and store it away. It may be worth a fortune someday...sort of like finding a Monet in your attic...
hehehe

Thanks, I just had to make sure folks don't get their panties in a wad over that sort of thing. Milsurp rifle guys can get down right nasty if you do anything to that $50 Mosin Nagant.

Amen, but oh well.... I chopped a long one down, got it recrowned (by a friend of mine) and put a sporter stock on it. Some purists would say I ruined a 60+ year old rifle. I say I gave it a new lease on life.

Go ahead and refurbish that sucker.... I'm itching to see the handle!

It's just a typical Latin pattern and the big collectors market is in Collins machetes or odd/rare varieties. Make it your own and put it to work. :)
