Anyone know about the old british matchetes, marked (what looks like) j kitchin ltc. sheffield 1952?

Measures 20 " OA w/ orange bakelit handle.

(I'll post a pic if I can.)

i just saw one of those at the flea market a couple weeks ago. i think the guy wanted $5 for it. i hope it is still there next week

I would have picked it up for sure at that price...it is a beast.

I'd like to know more about them, what was the original sheath... yrs they were made, things like that.

Was also thinking of removing the bakelite and putting some nice wood on it?

I have one of those with a black handle and I have the original sheath (and a belt, but I'm not sure about it being original to the machete or not? It's contemporary at least!) The sheath looks like this (photo not mine):

Mine is made by Kitchin as well. It's a beast!

I've got a machete which looks like an exact copy of the blade ,but with a different handle treatment , that someone brought me from Trinidad. They call machetes 'cutlasses ' there, doubtless because Trinidad used to be a British colony. My machete is made by Tramantino but seems to be a close copy of the Sheffield.
