When I look at the HI website I notice that there are basically two different blade styles for the WWII khuk. The current version has the belly of the blade far out near the tip where the blade is at it's greatest width. The old style shows a much more gradual curve in the blade as it approaches the tip. I, personally, prefer the old style and wonder if any more of that shape are still being made. If they were, I'ds take one right now. If not, maybe one of you good ol' boys with an extra one might be willing to part with it to someone who would appreciate it and give it proper loving care. Any benevolent old style WWII owner's out there?:D

I think if you watch you'll find one offered that fits the shape you want. Not all of them are as you describe today. Last few sure have been though.

I also prefer the esthetics of the Shop 1 type for 16.5" WW2's, but think the forward blunter point is advantageous for chopping.

For the I8" WW2's I feel the same, but note that the 18" Sirupati can achieve much the same effect.

So to recap:

16.5" WW2 / balanced between tool and weapon.

18" WW2 / tool ( secondary weapon )

18" Sirupati / weapon ( secondary tool )

All three should do well at splitting hairs if properly sharpened.

I'm glad you weighed in, Rusty. I am very curious about weights of the two WWll's. What weight range do you prefer with each? I ask this because a 27oz 16" WWll was just sold to RAGHORN.

"Hell, no."

This was my first kuk*, and I like it best. I'm not even sure who made it, but it's magic.

*Actually, think I may have got a sirupati at the same time.

I've had a few BAS' and never kept one. There was never a special feeling to any of them.

I've a 15" Sirupati that Pala rehandled. It's grown on me. I've re-cut the rings on it, sanded, stained, and refininshed it, but underneath it all it still the oaken handle Pala worked on, and his presence remains in it. A 15" Sirupati will do most of what a BAS will, and carry lighter too.

Enough. Any more and I'll be trying to explain the mystical to you. That hardly ever works.
