Everyone has their preference what's yours and why ? All 3 of mine are new but I prefer the look, handles , stonewash finish etc of the old spec

Ps sorry if this thread has already been done I'm new and very curious and eager to learn about survive products :)

I bought my first Survive knive because I was looking for a traditional Kephart style knife.
I bought a 3.5 because it was sort of a spear point with flat slab handles, in the minimalist style that I was looking for.
The current generation of knives are fantastic pieces to use, but with all the ergonomically desirable handle contours they've departed from the traditional style.
I am fortunate to be able to have both. :)

I still have a couple old spec 4.1's and had several others, the new spec ergos on the models I've gotten absolutely blow the old handles out of the water for my hands.

I know preferences with the old and new finishes can backfire a little polarizing, but I like both for different reasons. If the peened finish holds up over time then I'm sold on it.

I liked the old spec knives better than anything else on the market at the time and still do! With that said I think the improvements in fit and finish, handle texturing, ergonomics, steel and heat treat put them in a whole new category.

I like the look of the new spec knives. But I'm glad my GSO 4.1 has the skeletonized handles. It'll never be a beater at the size it is and while small savings I'll take what weight I can save for what is my hunting and backpacking fixed blade.

I prefer the stonewashed finish for it looks, but I do appreciate all of the improvements in the new spec knives. If I could get stonewashed new spec knives Ide be stoked!

New spec handle ergos all the way. If I could choose stonewash D3V with new handles I'd be all over it.

I love the ergos on the handle of the new spec , but I pefer the rounded spine on the old spec when carving , much easier on the thumb !

The old 4.1 is just the perfect size for me personally. I love the new 4.1 and all the improvements it brings, but it's just a half a size too big for me to call it perfect. It makes me think the new 3.5 will be exceptional. (But oddly enough, I'm not a huge fan of the original 3.5 because, for my needs, I would usually go with a folder/flipper in that size.)

Face it, the new 4.1 sucks. Let me trade you something for it :D

I prefer the new spec 5.1's that I have over the older model. The newer versions ergonomic seem to be more comfortable, but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter to me. I actually prefer the new finish over the old as well, along with the new blade contours. I still love my GSO 4.1 and 5 and look forward to when I get the 4.7 and newer 4.1 to compare. At the end of the day, I don't think anyone could really go wrong, whether it's the 1st or 2nd gen Survive! knives.
