Old spyderco advert?

Hey everybody

Ages and ages ago, way before i got into knives, i remember seeing an ad for Spyderco knives. Cant remember if i saw it in a glossy mag or if it was on the internet.

In the ad there was a story about somebody using their spydie to cut through a metalwire. I vaguely remember something about it being in an amusement park and that a life was at stake at the time. The spydie was totally ruined of course and the ad made no attempt at hiding this fact, but the point was that when the s*** hits the fan you could count on your spydie.

Now i only saw this ad once and i dont know how if i remember all this correctly...maybe my ageing brain has added a thing or two to the whole thing , but im pretty sure it was a Spyderco knife. It has stuck with me all these years to the point where my first serious folder i bought was a Spyderco.

Does anybody else remember seeing it? Could the good folks at Spyderco confirm this? And if i remember correctly could you maybe post the ad as an pic in this thread or provide us with a link?

Thanks and regards
Mads

i remember that one , couldn t find it ...
it was a serrated model, and it was showed next to the wire, saying something like : after, it could still cut/shave,... well we are kidding, it ruined the knife, but it did it, it cut the wire....

Good question! I need my full brain power and maybe I found what you are searching:

Spyderco Story, page 31 ... shows a picture of a C15 Bob Terzuola PS and a steel cable cut through. The footnote tells: "This ad was inspired by a letter from a loyal Spyderco customer."

Don't know if I'm allowed to make a scan of the page :o

Is this the ad you look for help? :)

Well, its not like i remember it but im guessing there arent that many spydie ads with severed steel cables...or is there?

That's really a great ad. There might be some different versions of it. Here's an old thread where Sal talks a little about the customer's letter that inspired it.

Wow, the original post was from James Mattis. I remember him from back in the days when I still read rec.knives. He was a great, classy guy.

Wasn't there also an ad that was similar except it was about someone having to cut through a car roof?

A member here (TOTC - ThinkOfTheChilderen) used to host a webpage with all the ads from the Spyderco story book (scanned with permission). I'm trying to dig up the URL
