Old Spydie Police???

I have a spyderco police model that I got at a flea market and I noticed that instead of having vg-10 steel stamped at the bottom it has gin-1 stainless and has a patent # on the clip instead of the spyderco symbol. Is this just an older model or something else? oh yeah it also has a standard lckbck without the dent in it.

That was a standard model. It is the same as the one that I have.

Spyderco originally made the Enduras, Delicas and Police models of different steels. I have an Endura and Delica each made of ATS-55 steel, where as they are now the VG-10. How good of a steel is VG-10? The ATS-55 sharpens up real nice and holds a fine edge.

yea. it's the japanese version of 440c. not bad steel at all imho.

Hi,

Your Spyderco dates to around the mid 90's, as I have the same model which I bought around then. Gin-1 is the same steel as G-2, just under a different name.
