According to Hesiod’s Theogony, Prometheus carried stolen fire from Heaven to Earth—as a gift for mankind—in a fennel stalk. I’m guessing Prometheus cut a hole in the bulb-like stem when he carried coals to Hellas.

Has anybody done this? Can you carry fire in a fennel stalk?

that would have to be a huge fennel stalk. You can char the pith out of it..hahaha...and carry it that way I guess.

Or maybe the stalk was used as a spindle for the handle drill method? Thus "stealing" from the gods??

I'm a little bit frightened about the possible consequences of doing this, have a birds eat out your liver every night only for it to grow back. Seems like a good think for cirrhosis, but not too pleasant way to spend eternity.
