So, the late 90's Large Regular I just got has a different style tang than all the other Sebenzas I have. Does anyone know when and why they changed? Here's some pics, 90's Regular first, then recent Seb 21.

Yeah, I actually posted an update in my other thread.Glad to see you got your knife !
They didn't describe it very well, and I've wondered about what year it would be from.
Does it have BG-42, with no date stamp on slabs ?
I'm thinking that's the case, and if so it was made in late 1996, or 1997.
I have a Regular 1997 stamped A97, but not all made that year had the date stamp.
I also have a Regular BG-42 with no stamp that was made in late 96 or 97. I'm thinking yours may be one like that.
Thanks. They will have that one looking as new, and I hope it serves you well.
I've wondered about one thing lately. They started the Regular frame in 1996, and started using BG-42 in October of that year.
Does anyone know if any Regular's were made in 1996 that had ATS-34 ?
If so how would you know which without sending it in to CRK ?
I may have read that before, but don't remember if I did.
I have these two -
You may be right about the start date of the BG42 blades, but the earliest picture of a birthcard with this blade steel I've seen is Regular #151 below born on 2/25/97
I too have a Large Regular with no date codes..etc. I did alot of research on this topic recently. Here it is in a large nutshell.
ATS-34 was used in the first 200 (numbered) Large Regular Sebenzas due to the supplier delaying the arrival of BG42. Initially all ATS-34 blades in the Regulars had a polished finish of some sort. The first BG42 blades differed in that they were all stonewashed on both the blade and flats. This info was from Anne which I will try to dig up quotes after my vacation(cell phone only).
She added later versions of the Large regulars BG42 in uniques and special orders had different combinations of polished and stonewashed. Basically if it fell into that void of non dated slabs and it was a plain Jane "regular" with all stone wash, then it is BG42 .
Please feel free to correct me if I misstated anything above.
