Old Style Wave?

I lost my old style wave the past hunt season. The new ones with all the lock mech's just don't do it for me. Anyone know how to get the older model?

Same goes for the new super tool. I did have to replace a Super for work, but the unlock knobs are not needed IMO.

I did try Leatherman, but they refused to sell an old model. Said they needed to keep what they had for warranty replacement.

Thanks for any help.

I just checked ebay briefly. There were some of the older LM wave models. If you don't mind picking one up used, I think ebay will serve you. I'm sure if you keep looking, someone on ebay will likely put up an unused one.

Hope you find what you're looking for.

Galeno,

Thanks! I had tried ebay a few monthes ago and only found the new ones. I just checked and there are quite a few now. Guess you just need to check often and be patient. I'm slightly ebay challenged.

By the way my mistake was in buying a clip style sheath. I thought it would be good since I would be wearing a backpack, so I could clip on/off my belt to the hip belt. Won't do that again.

I feel the same way about my old Wave versus the new ones. You could try posting in the "Want to Buy" forum here.

I have seen old Waves in Target that are old stock on display. They tend to discount old stock as well. Worth a look.

On my old model, just the outside blades locked. I don't care for the added bulk of making everything lock or the large buttons they added to unlock.

I feel the same about the newer Super 200. To me it's actually more trouble to use the unlock knobs than to just pull out an additional tool/blade and unlock whatever is out.

Just personal preferance.

I prefer the old Wave due to its smaller size and proper screwdrivers instead of those removable bits.

I briefly owned a Surge. The first time I tried to use it to tighten a cabinet door, The philips bit driver was too stubby to reach. I had to get my old Wave instead. My wife commented "Gee, good thing you bought that new tool."

I traded the Surge for a Swisstool and I keep the old Wave in my briefcase. My edc is a Vic Spirit.

I totally agree i like my old wave much better than the new one. I love leatherman but the bit drivers are horrid. I would suggest going to a old hardware store perhaps

I Have one on the way back from Leatherman. They usually send back new ones. Personally, I much perfer the new style.

I have a Old Wave, New Wave, Super Tool 200, & PST with the 1/2 serrated main blade.

By leaps and bounds, I like the new wave best.

I just broke my out style wave on purpose to get a new one because my old one was gettin worn out... Has not came in yet.. Sent it on Wendesday first class usps.

I just bought a NIB 'original' Wave off ebay for about $50 plus shipping. And my just-purchased new '07 Wave is going back to the store pronto.
The bit holder idea sucks; as implemented, it's weak, and too short for good screw access; plus it wastes space (as does the too-small combo screwdriver blade holder).
The new model does seem more rigid in the plier joints, but that's the only plus I can see (besides the all-locking tools, which I can do without). If they'd stuck with the traditional fixed screwdriver blades, I would probably have preferred the new model. Leatherman seems to be going for 'newer is better, regardless' philosophy, rather than 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.

BTW, IMO the 'Core' also sucks (OK, I'll modify that statement: The Core has some advantages - namely larger, and some improved tools - the use of plastic spacers and the resulting extra bulk is a big turn-off). But it's going back to the store as well, and has been replaced in my kit by the previous, superior (IMHO) Super Tool 200 (which, I agree with the author of this post, doesn't really need the lock releases).

When all's said and done, as much as I like 'em, Leatherman tools 'evolution' is obviously fallible.

I have an original "wave" I want to sell, it shows some wear, and the plain edge blade is worn, but it's really sharp.
I spoke to leatherman about refreshing it and they said "send it in and for $5 we'll replace the blade and tighten it up"
I was going to ask for $50 - -$5 for the blade let me know if your interested
