Old Tanto

As I look at this piece there is always some variation of a narrative floating around in my head. It reminds me of some of the shops in Kathmandu, the sellers trying to peddle their tourist items, but you as peer into the corners and crevices you see the old dust, the old grime of the hundreds of years the building has stood. For me this feels like a piece that was pulled off one of the old shelves, the stuff that had been forgotten as generations passed.
There are other dreams that float in my head.. I enjoy this tanto for it's stories..

10 1/2" W2 machi to tip
15 7/16" OAL
Aged white oak, wrought iron, copper and hemp.

PS.. the habaki has since been given a patina..

When I grow up, I want to be just like you!:D Who am I kidding, I'm never gonna grow up!

You make some of the coolest stuff I've seen. I love the iron hardware, forge finished flats, the extra sweep at the tip of the saya, and the hamon is nutz! Nice work:thumbup:

Darcy:)

That is just so cool... love the interplay of colors and textures. Even the orientation of the grain in that oak just looks right, like it grew that way for a reason

This piece is exactly why I love what you build Stuart. I couldn't imagine it any differently.

Stuart

That's yet another fantastic concept...exquisitely rendered in every detail

I have to echo Bill Flynn's words. Just superb in every way Stuart. Mike

Outstanding!! There are times that superlatives overstate things, this is not one of them. Thank you for sharing this one Stuart.
