Do the numbers on the tang repersent the year and make ?..if so what Is the make....Also what is the handle made out of ?

Mereold
On the OT's the numbers on the tang usually mean only the model number.
The 194OT is named the Gunstock Trapper.
The handle is "Delrin" a form of plastic and secret ingredients. Called "Stagalon" on the UH series.

Thks for the help larry....just started collecting knives...have any good web links for info on sharade ? :D

The website is also gone. BUT, one of our former insiders was kind enough to post this...
http://www.schradeknives.com/products.htm

Don't know how long it will remain.....so, read fast! :D

Here is another site.....
http://www.rangercamping.com.au/Knives_Handbook/Knives_Handbook_Schrade.htm

The information is a bit out of date ( no more 440A, not much 1095 at the end :( ) but still worth perusing...especially for any newer collectors.

Hope this helps. Oh, and welcome to the Forum. Schrade is gone...but we're still here.

Common mistake that you can see repeated on ebay is mistaking the 'O' in OT (for old timer) as a 0 (numeral zero). So I can see where the question came from, Mereold. To most people unfamiliar with the knife, sure, it would appear to be '1940'.

A great source of information is right here. You will find us a very friendly, helpful lot. We all join in welcoming you, Mereold!

Welcome to the forums! I'm not a big fan of Schrade knives, but Old Timers are nice, especially for the money.

I've recently bought a few Old Timers on closeout, including the 194OT. If you're asking about the 194OT because you're interested in buying one, Smoky Mountain Knife Works has them on closeout for $11.99, as well as several other Old Timer models.

Best Wishes,
Bob

p.s. I should clarify that I don't work for SMKW an am not associated with them in any way, other than being an ocassional customer.
