Hi to all Schradophiles... 'tis me... I know next to nothing about Schrade and don't ordinarily collect traditional folders, but since there's a story behind the 80T Delander sent me, I'd like to know something about it and about the company that made it... if someone would care to give me the quick story. :)

I just very recently posted a pattern history on the 8OT, so I hate to repost the same info so soon.

And a timeline about Schrade history (and the U.S. knife industry of the 20th century in general since the name "Schrade" encompasses so many companies, and so many innovative people )as well, so I hate to repost it so soon.

This was the best I coud do to condense a bit over 100 years of knife history. Do you have specific questions not answered in these two posts?

You are welcome Madcap Magician. By the way, I just finished reading Dale Brown's Devil's Tail. Wanna know the ending? :D JK, JK!

One tidbit I left out of the 8OT pattern info that might surprise some who have not done the math, the 8OT was the longest running pattern of the Old Timer line, being produced continuously for 45 years.

That was why I selected the 8OT as one of the knives in the first go-round.

The 897UH is my favourite - I've carried one for over 35 years. I've even gutted a Moose with it. :-)

I would be surprised if most hunters in North America have not, at one time in their lives, owned a Schrade knife and used it in their sport. And 99% of those have some story great or small relating to their adventures and their Schrade.

I gutted and skinned, and then butchered a deer last century with a tiny wood handled Schrade contract Sears Craftsman knife based on the 104OT Minuteman . For those who cannot reach out and pick one up just now, this two blade "gentleman's knife" is 2-3/4" long and weighs just a shade under an ounce. Perhaps this subject would make a good thread in itself. I'll explain the "why's" in that thread.
