Ok while camping in the NC mountains I bought a schrade 30t old timer knife. I bought it for $20 from a small store called the "Eldorado Outpost". Does anyone have any info on this knife? Its a small lockback. I mainly want to know what kind of steel the blade is, and did i get a good deal on it?

If it's a Schrade USA knife, and it's new, I wouldn't say you got a steal on it, but you got a decent price. While I don't know exactly what steel they used, if the tang stamp says "SCHRADE+", it's stainless. If it doesn't have the "+", it's carbon steel.

Is it a Schrade USA or a Taylor Brands import?

The USA Schrade 3OT was made from 1986 to about 2004ish when Imperial Schrade closed its doors. It was made with Schrade+ stainless, I believe some form of 440?

If it is a Taylor import I have no idea what it is made of.

The US-made Schrade blades that are labled "Schrade +" are 440A.

If it is the new Chinese, I would guess that the steel is similar, though it would be a Chinese alloy.

If it is US-made, you got a good deal.

If it is Chinese-made, not so much.

I have two of the USA made 3OT's, great knives that just dissapear in my pocket.
