Hello. This is my 1st post in this forum. I was hoping that I could get some advice on how to take apart an Old Timer. I don't have a specific pattern in mind yet, I thought I'd start on something a bit beat up before I moved on to anything I really cared about. So if I wanted to disassemble say a 34OT where would I start? I think I have read something about Swinden Keyhole constuction, could someone expain how this works?
Thanks,
Nick

Thanks for the link Irv. I was hoping I might catch a couple more replies here. So from just looking at the patent drawing it looks like if you cut the center pin & remove it, the rest of the knife will come apart. Is that correct?

I have seen a few rehandle jobs posted here and I think that after I am comfortable with taking one apart I would like to try my own rehandle job. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Nick

Nick,

I've never disassembled a knife with the idea of putting it back together.. Had a few come apart in my hand but thats another story.
There are a few of the submittors here that have re-done folders and shown their results to us. I hope they will drop in and lend a hand.

Good luck and please let us see the results when finished.

You got it Nick. Cut the rocker pin and turn the ends of one side in (I think) a counterclockwise direction. You can cut the pin with a heavy duty razor blade or a thin old kitchen knife.

Alright, now I just have to decide on a handle material and pick up some pins. Oh, and pick my first victim, I mean patient. Thanks for the help. If anyone has any rehandled OTs to show off I'd love to see them.
Orvet- you may know me by my AAPK handle- nmikash. Thanks for the help.
