What is your favorite oldtimer?

For me its the muskrat-first knife my dad ever gave me, year 1975 :)

As of right now this one, and the fact that no one seems to be able to find one makes it even more so.

Bought one of those at the local Wallyworld last week along with a 897UH stockman. They had 2 more of those trappers sitting in the closeout section. As for my favorite Old Timer, it would have to be the 125OT folding hunter.

I'd sure like to have one. They don't have a good seletion at the Marts out here.

Regards,

Jeremy

That's a beautiful knife!

My favorite Old-Timer is the Sharpfinger. I know it's nothing fancy but it feels good in the hand and holds a edge well.

Collecter

Pocketknife, and the SHARPFINGER as my favorite fixed blade Old Timer. Both of mine really are old timers as the 8OT is a Schrade-Walden and the SHARPFINGER is a first year issue knife. Both were used seriuosly for many years, all four blades will wipe the hair off your arm, but both are in excellent shape. Both also are different in that I blued the blades on both when they were new to help protect that fine carbon steel. This did a fine job of protection too and still look spiffy as all git-out though I suspect some collector on down the road of time will turn up his nose at 'em when I am dead and gone.

OTguy can you still get any there at wally world?

I will let you know tomorrow, I'm not heading there today. If you want to work something out let me know. The trappers had been there for a month before I got mine, I don't think folks around here care for traditional knives that much. Most places I check for knives, the traditionals go begging. Heck, there's a place down the road that has 10-20 year old Case new-old stock on display. Of course now that I've said that some guy is pulling into the parking lot with trappers on the brain.

What did you use to blue them with and how has it held up? Since you said that you actually used them, I figure I wouldn't be too concerned about collectors as they will either want As-New and not be interested at all or, if they collect used like I do, will apreciate the fact that the knife was a)used and b) treated well.

OTguy,
thanks I would be interested. I really appreciate that! I have really searched without much luck. Whenever I hear about them, they seem to be gone before I get there! This is a hard to find knife!! :)

JHouston,
you can use any gun blue, the cold blue paste works well. You can also use mayonaisse (need to leave it on over night at the least amount of time), acid rust remover (such as navel jelly, leave it on longer than you are suppoed to it will "acid etch" the blade", the longer you leave it on the darker it gets, just do not leave it on too long!)

Hi guys. I bought a model 1940T last summer. and it is an awesome knife. I has a liner lock, but it's really a slipjoint with a liner lock also. Excuse me if you already know all this. but it as an awsome "pocket" knife, and it is extremely well made. It's just the right size and has the perfect everyday blade. I was lucky enough to find one before Schrade went out of business. There aren't many Scrades left out there, and you have to snap them up when you get a chance.

My first one, the 77OT improved muskrat. Baught it 1985. That was before I had a lot of folders so its pretty wellused with dark grey blades. Its nowadays a lightworking nostalgic classic in my small small treasure of things that I retired out of liking.

I remember my OT muskrat from 1975. My dad bought it for me on the way to salt fork state park and I used it the two weeks we were there for everything. Whittling, digging out splinters, fishing, etc. etc. etc. By the time we left the blades had already begun to tarnish!!!
