;) Old Timers
"Old Timer" (slang for an old man) are easy to spot:
1. At sporting events, during the playing of the National Anthem, Old Timers hold their caps over their hearts and sing without embarrassment. They know the words and believe in them.

2. Old Timers don't wear their countries flag or use it for a tablecloth, they treat it with respect. They stand when the flag passes in a parade and salute it or stand ro attention.

3. Old Timers remember World War I, the Depression, World War II, Pearl Harbour, Dieppe, Guadalcanal, Normandy, Casino, St Lo and Hitler. They remember the Atomic Age, the Korean War, The Cold War, the Jet Age and the Moon Landing, not to mention Vietnam and Peacekeeping.

4. If you bump into an Old Timer on the sidewalk, he will apologize.

5. If you pass an Old Timer on the street, he will nod or tip his cap to a lady.

6. Old Timers trust strangers and are courtly to women.

7. Old Timers hold the door for the next person and always, when walking, make certain the lady is on the inside for protection.

9. Old Timers get embarrassed if someone curses in front of women and children and they don't like any filth on TV or in movies. Old Timers have moral courage.

10. Old Timers seldom brag unless it's about their grandchildren.

11. It's the Old Timers who know our great country is protected, not by politicians or police, but by the young men and women in the military serving their country.

12. This country needs Old Timers with their decent values.

13. We need them now more than ever. Thank God for Old Timers!

Dave, one need not be old to have Old Timer morals, values and....Duty, honor and courage (Quote: R.V. Langston, dedication of his book) .

I have said, and will probably say many more times that these now archaic virtues are a part of the attraction of most of us to the relics of the American cutlery industry, most particularly Schrade. An honestly made quality product, handmade by people who shared these values. Whether or not the romantic notion fits the reality of history, each of us must decide in our hearts. There were indeed rogues and scoundrels in the cutlery field, as in every segment of society. But there were a lot of Old Timers too who dedicated their lives to the aforementioned attributes, and it shows in the relics they left behind for us to admire, collect, and use.

In today's world, there are a lot worse things a young man could aspire to than to become an Old Timer as described above. I would say that you, Dave, are probably well on your way.
