Looking at the Toothpick thread, and a comment - "A beautiful but impractical choice for carry." Who remembers "Pegging a Shiv"? Wooden kitchen match, head cut off. slipped in far enough to keep the tip of the blade exposed. Draw against the pocket rivet in jeans. Workable in simpler days.

I remember in the 1950's the toothpick was a tavern/road house choice. Cheap enough to toss, but effective to slash or poke with. Most could be pinched open in a hurry, and I do recall the matchstick trick.
