Hello all, I picked this old Timer up recently,(here is a pic. http://picturehost.com/v/User-Albums...immer.jpg.html )and love everything except the saw cut derlin handles. My questions are, Would it be possible to remove the scales that are on it and replace it with stag scale myself? What kind of steel is used in this knife? It seems like carbon steel, it had a very fine edge on it when I bought it. One more thing, Is there any why to date these knives, like, Caes knives? Thanks John

Yes you can get the knife rehandled, but it might be a little more expensive than what was paid for the knife.

They would have to remove the 3 handle pins (one stabilizes the back spring and goes all the way through the knife (handles, liners spring), fit the stag and re-pin the knife.

Some of the guys in the Schrade Forum may know how to date the knife. I have not handled enough of them to know if it can be done.

Thanks for the reply, I was planning on doing the handles myself, but I was not sure about removing the pin that holds in the backspring.

Hey, just thought I would put some updated knife piccs. It is not finished yet, but it is close. Let me know what you think. I have an 80t with the old carbon blade, that I will be starting on next. Thanks, John

Nice work! I have a Birdseye Maple scaled Queen Folding Hunter. It looks like the Queen mated with a Schrade there. Here is a pic of the Queen. I think your BEM is quite a bit nicer!

Folding hunters are one of the patterns I like and have a few of.
