Old Trident Steel Type?

I found an ad for a used, mint condition SOG Trident that looks very nice. The strange thing is, the seller states that this is not the same knife as the current SOG S-2 model. I'm guessing the steel spec was perhaps changed at some point.

Does anyone know what the differences are between the current Trident and the model being sold by this gent?

Thanks.

The SOG Trident was and is made from AUS-8. During the early years SOG marketed the knife as 440-C, however the steel was always AUS-8. They simply felt that the US market was more familiar with 440-C, and that AUS-8 was close enough that no one would notice the difference.

The Trident has always been made of AUS8 Stainless steel. Until recently (the last couple of years), SOG used in its advertising the near equivalent U.S. label of "440C."

In light of that, why would this guy advertise his SOG Trident as not being the same as the current S-2?

Because he may not be aware of the "name change"...???
