old united cuterlypocket nifes

I have old united culery kives from 1900 has rust built up need to remove rust how can i do this without hurting the pocket knifes

First. Welcome to the Forum.
Is the rust all over the knife or mostly on the blade? You might want to soak it down with WD-40 over night and the use some 0000 steel wool to remove the rust. Without a picture it is hard to tell the extent of the damage. What kind of finish are you looking for on the blade? Remember that to remove the pitting completely you have to remove all the good metal around it until you get down to the thickness of the pitting. This can be done with different numbers of wet/dry sandpaper. Lay the paper on a hard flat surface and move the blade across it going to finer grits to remove the marks for the lower number paper. There will be other answers I'm sure. This is just the method I might start with since I don't have the knife in my hands.
