hi everyone, i'm just starting off here, and don't know too much about knives.

so here's the thing, i have a very old victorinox (grandfather), and i would like to know a bit more about it, but i can't seem to find the type on the victorinox site, probably out af production for a while( i thinks its about 50 years old)

here it is

it has been through quite a lot use/ abuse, but i absolutely adore it

It looks to me like an original 70's vintage Traveller (no hook, key ring, sewing eye and a grooved corkscrew).

If you're afraid of carrying your Grandfathers knife because of possible loss or damage of you might want to check our the Climber model, basically the same except it also has a hook and key ring.

Sakwiki.com is a good place for info on Swiss Army Knives

well actualy the keyring has broken off :p, and the scissor spring has broken, is that easy replacable?

edit: and it's not 84 but 90 mm long

In that case I would say it's an original Climber, 91mm. You should be able to get a replacement spring just by sending Victorinox an email. If not do a Google search for it, they're easy to find and are only a couple dollars. I'm not sure though if the new springs will work on the old scissors.

Edit. Nevermind, deffinitely a pre'86 Traveller.

used to own one of that when i was a teenager... sold to a friend...

i still kept my old ones, but EDC a recent models since they would be easier to replace if something happened...

if i were you, i wont use that old one... just get a climber or supertinker... and kept the old one for memorabilia...

well come to the forum and check the mutitools sub forum, you'll find many great topics about SAKs there...

What an awesome piece of memory. It actually looks lot better than my Vic Mechanic which is only about 7 or so years old.

FYI, I looked at my Huntsman and the scissor looks to be exactly the same. I think getting replacement spring will be easy.

All the Pioneer models are a little bigger than the one you have and feel (and are) much tougher. The blade is longer and thicker and the backspring is stronger. The alox handles aslo feel way more solid. I have a Pioneer Apprentice that has the large blade and a small sheepsfoot blade. It's my favorite single layer model but the Solo is really nice and simple. The Bantam is nice too but it's a size down and is a little too thin for me. You can't go wrong with alox.
