I just bought my 12 year old son a new BK10, since he'd been borrowing my old one more and more for outdoors adventuring. I didn't mind him using mine, but he had a great report card this year so I thought I'd get him his own. We've been out a few times and I've had a chance to use both knives and see if anything was different in the new Kabar run. There are some differences; mainly the sheath and the handle. The handle on the new bk10 is slimmer and feels slightly smaller in the hand, which is actually ok. When handling them side by side, I find I prefer the new profile. The coating on the new BK10 seems rougher textured than I remember my old one being, but then again, mine is worn very smooth or worn right off in most places, so it's hard to really compare. Lastly, the sheath is vastly improved over the old sheath, and I loved the old sheath. The new sheath is much better built and offers a lot more versatility in terms of getting it on and off the belt etc, though I do miss the elastic retaining band on the top of the sheath pocket. It seems like small items could more easily slip out of the pocket if the sheath was inverted. All in all, I think Kabar did this one right, and I'd be glad to replace my old camillus BK10 with a Kabar model if I had to...
