I lost my 15+ year old small Sebenza last week. It was my EDC all that time. It was a classic with a BG42 blade. Anyway, I thought that I would check out eBay to see what was available
in pre-owned Sebenzas. There were a few, but the prices seemed to escalate to more than a new one. One used small Sebenza just sold for $385 and a new one is listed for $350. Same
knife, nothing special. I must be missing something.

I see that the new ones have S35VN blades. What can I expect compared to BG42? I am not very rough on my knives although they get dropped once in awhile.

Yeah, the knife you lost was worth more than a new one. The older Sebenzas are fetching top dollar now. People are willing to pay the price as you can see.
There is nothing wrong with the S35VN, it is a great steel. The S35VN has a 58/59Rc and the BG42 is at 61Rc. The BG42 has better edge retention, the S35VN is tougher, easier to sharpen and won't chip. The S30V is good also, I've got a couple in it and like it as well as the S35VN.
To get you caught up on what you are missing: folks are paying stupidly high prices for knives and not just CRK's

Older sebenzas are worth more than the new ones. Vintage, condition, blade steels, box and papers all add to the overall price. Also has to do with timing. I have seen large plain regulars go for 1K one week and $300 the next, all in the same condition. BG-42 usually commands more and many love it. S30V is on many of your older ones as well. If you wanna go way back, the norm was Ats-34. Now, you get S35VN. All are similar as I have had them all. Overall, I like S30V the most, but I have had the most experience with it, so perhaps I am partial to it. Currently I have been carrying an older classic cgg with S30V and a sebenza 25 with S35VN. Both perform the same. I use the sharpmaker on ALL my knives and never have any issues. No chipping in any of the CRK blade steels I have owned. I do not spend my day doing senseless tissue paper cutting tests and comparing them to others. The edge is sharp and does anything I ever ask it to do. The only real preference I have is that I like the Large sebenza over the Small. Other than that, they are all pretty equal to me and you could not go wrong with any of em.

Sorry to hear you lost your sebenza. Welcome to the "Lost Sebenza Club". I lost a large 21 silver dog paws and am still bummed about it. I have bought more sense, but still bothers me that one ran away. All I can say is that I hope if someone found it, they are enjoying it as much as I did.

It's not just the money, it's tough when you lose something that's hard or impossible to replace. What I do is suck it up, take the hit and replace it quickly. It burns for a short time and then you bond with the replacement. And your healed. Better than healed, because it's unlikely it will ever happen again.

Actually, it doesn't bother me much. I have thought about replacing it anyway. The problem is finding a knife other than a small Sebenza that is similar in size. It seems that most quality folding
knives have blades 3 1/4" or longer. Even the blade on the small Sebenza seemed to make the sheeple nervous. ;)

You can only replace a CRK, with another CRK.
I have carried my Lg regular Seb. BG42, for 14+ years.
Been everywhere with me, and it's part of the memories of those locations.
Have to say-Been look'n real hard at a Lg 21, insigno Seb.
LG

Who cares what the "Sheeple" think, to me a large is the minimum….. I carry a .45 for that emergency i hope never comes, but my CRK is a daily use tool. I think it helps "Sheeple" to be exposed to real people who don't have to "Brandish" but just use a knife for what it is intended.

Try a ti-lite. Crk quality with a hawk twist :). Little bigger handle, but bigger blade. I like the finish better as well.

I found it!!! It wasn't lost, it was hiding. I decided that it was time to wash my jeans.....probably past time. When I picked up one pair it felt a little heavier than the rest.
Sonofagun, my Sebenza was deep in the the left front pocket. I usually have it clipped to the pocket, but for some unknown reason it was deep inside. Here it is in all it's
banged up, dented and scratched glory. It looks better in the picture than in person. ;)

Good news. Usually guys report the knife found in the bottom of the wash tub when that happens. ;)

Been there done that. It looks fantastic. Over the years I've lost 2 knives (both clipped) on my pocket; an early all stainless Spyderco and a Benchmade Big Spender. Neither one a big dollars knife, but it told me I could lose any knife. I don't clip anymore. I have a 3 or 4 inch lanyard on the knife and stick it in my pocket. The lanyard hangs out a little keeping the knife vertical and easy to grab. If you become active a clipped knife can work its way out or catch on something.

LOL! Mine has been though the wash at least once a year. It sure comes out nice and clean. :D

I now have it connected to a lanyard that came with a Sandisk Cruzer. It is attached to my belt and has a quick disconnect. Paranoid? Damn right! ;)

Is "Classic" the original production line or in this case is it the original that had alot of custom hand work done before they got big? Great that you recovered it!

It wasn't the 1st production line. It was introduced in 2000(thus the MM). It is closer to the look of the 1st Sebenza's than the Regular line.

Probably the second best feeling in the world is finding a treasure like that, when you are convinced you lost it forever. Bravo!!

I still never found that Large Regular with the swedge that I lost helping that lady change her flat tire on the side of the road. I must have spent 24 hours at that same spot over the course of 3 days searching. Someone had to have picked it up. It wasn't the Lady either as I ran into her a few weeks later (turns out she lives near me), she even let me search her trunk (in her car, lol) come on guys, I'm waiting for it, lol.
