Old Western Knife

I have owned a small Western hunting knife for approximately 30 years. It has been with me on practically every outdoor trip or hunt over this time. "L48A" is stamped on the brass finger guard. The knife is 8.25 in total length. The stain-less blade is 4.5 inches with 2 inch blood grooves. It has a full visible tang, using two piece leather washers. The aluminum pommel is pinned through the tang. The blade is hard and sharpens well, and remains sharp even when skinning game. I realize that Camillus bought Western in 1991. I cannot find any info on old Western brand knives. I would appreciate any information on this knife, particularly the type of blade steel used.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Chambeam,
It may take awhile to dig up the info on one that old, but I'll get our historian on it. Tom Williams will post your answer her on this thread. Thanks for the interest!

Chambeam, any chance that you could post a picture of your knife? I'm interested in the Old Western knives.
