I am interested in learning more about an old Western hunting knife I recently got from my Dad. It has an aluminum butt cap, looks like H type leather washer handle (which is still very tight), blade is fairly thin and app 6" long (it's not in front of me now), blade had some type of dark finish on it (not blued). It took a very nice edge with moderate effort and seems to be very well made. Any information would be appreciated.

Hi,

If the mark is Western U.S.A. Longmont Colo. then it was made between 1956-78. If it has a single guard, then it was a standard hunting design. If it is a Double guarded Clip-point, then it was their Shark combat/utility knife. Both were popular in their day:).
