Though I am mostly interested in new production slipjoints, I did acquire a few old ones. It would be great to know something about these. Is it possible to find out the age of this one? is it collectable, or can it go into the using pile?
That's a 3 1/2" "Moose" (Swell Center) and Winchester is very collectible. The condition is used but decent, does not look to have been abused. I'm sure there are many collectors who would like to own this knife. Top collectors would want an unused example but for the rest of us it would quite fine.
You could use it but the steel is softer than knives being made now so it would need more frequent touch up sharpening. Really it is better as a collectible and buy yourself a recently made knife to be your everyday user.

age: 1920-1940
Thank you for the info guys. The knife is nicer in hand than shows in the photo. I will keep it in my display box, I guess it has earned a good retirement.

Good decision Wolfgang. You began this thread by saying: "Though I am mostly interested in new production slipjoints".
Maybe now this vintage Winchester will put you on the path of finding some of the many truly exquisite old knives that are 'out there', some in close to factory condition.
The best knives ever made are now more than 100 years old.
