Question folks,

Anybody been using the 550HG Griptilian for a long time?

I used to own the good old oval hole 550 Griptilians in 154CM and loved em. Still own one actually.

I just wondered if anybody had an original in either 440C or 154CM that also now has a 550HG and can contrast/compare?

I have seen the 555HG and the tip seems so thin that it could easily be snapped off cutting through cardboard or other semi-tough items. I hope I'm wrong.

I just wondered if the 550HG have thin tips like the 555HG models?

Is the saber hollow grind that much better than the flat saber grind with the oval hole? It seems to me that the oval hole 550 cuts awesome as it is. I wonder why BM changed to HG.

Thanks in advance people! :)

No way! It's thin, but in no way is it delicate. I've used a 555HG (new round hole Mini-Grip) for work for a long time, and even on torquing cuts with pressure behind them, the blade doesn't stress.

It's one of, if not the sharpest knife I own because of the grind angle. And even if you did manage to somehow break the tip off, I can't see Benchmade not covering a blade swap. They have exceptional customer service.

I have both, and I much prefer the newer 550HG's. The round hole works better (for me), and the hollow grind is a real slicer!

I only own a 556. Wouldn't the sabre grinds be more similar to the oval holes as far as the blade goes. The HG is completely different, and apparently a real slicer, but not all that pointy.

the first day i received it i was afraid because of the tip, but after some use, this feeling disappear. this is a wonderfull knife, one of the trustiest i own. and the hg make it a very good slicer
