I recently acquired this 93mm (3 11/16") alox SAK "Electrician" knife.

As you can see the original price was $7.45 !

Other side. What does "Schweizer" refer to ?

I think the plain cross, not colored white or red, can be used to give a date range ? and the box should also be of help to date the knife.
I could have posted this in the BRL forum but there seems to be a fair bit of SAK interest here in Traditionals so i am posting it here.

It'll help if you close the wire stripper blade and give us a closeup of the spear blade's tang stamp.

I can't help with the date, but "Schweizer Qualität" is German for "Swiss quality".

I agree with sturzi. I think the two sides of the box say the same thing, one side in English, the other in German.

I am not able to take another pic right now but tang is marked: Victorinox/Switzerland/Stainless/Rostfrei
The sakwiki site is very helpful and it does show my knife as the first edition of the Electrician but no dates are given.
I don't think this knife is very old so hopefully someone here might remember when this style box was in use.

Schweizer is Swiss -auf Deutsch-
Just a guess but the box has a 70s-80s look about it.
And when did we stop using stick on price tags like that?

To me, that's a 70's, maybe early 80's run. Either way, a nice score and one of my favorite models. Great knife and built tough.

When SAK_Guy happens along, he may pin it down closer.

I had that exact one and somehow in all the moving it got lost. Great knife and I miss it alot.
Can't help you on anything more that what's been said thus far.
Good luck!

that is a good score, especially with the original box, I have a red alox solo in the same style of box, don't know the vintage. You could use an inflation calculator, using the the modern retail price as a reference to get an approximation of the year in which such a knife would have cost $7.45.

The Electrician with that same scale cross in alox is shown in the 1970 thru 1985 Victorinox catalogs.

Picked up the same model NIB at a gun shop last November - this one appears to have a smaller/newer box. If you look close you can see $15.00 written on the box with a ballpoint. OH

Older ALOX can be tough to date exactly but I can say that ALOX in my shop in '82 had the similar style boxes. I tend to agree with Joe...middle 70's - early 80's. That's a dual language box and the cutoff date for that may get us closer but I don't know the date. The price looks 70's but prices are arbitrary and reflect not only date but store policy as well. We frequently ran loss leaders on knives to get folks into the store.
