Hi all. So, I am a fan of knives that show use. Up to now though, my silver ceramic coated CQC-8 has only been employed for very light EDC tasks :eek: as I cherish it and wasn't sure I wanted to mark it up that much yet. Recently, I scored a matching black coated CQC-8 from the same year ('05). Which one would you keep more pristine and which one would you set on the path of gaining more "character"? Thanks!

Definitely make the black one into a user. The ceramic coated 8's are starting to get hard to come across by, much less in good condition.

Besides black coated Emersons that are scratched up and abused look way cooler in my opinion (which is really always fact).
 
Even if you use it lightly, the black blade will easily show more wear. While the HC finish is more durable, but isn't impervious to scratches either. It's really up to you to choose, but I would pick the HC finish to carry. I have a modified 7 that has the HC finish, and it shows wear nicely, even kind of lustrous.

depends on situation. unless it doesnt matter, then choose the opposite of the one you like the most!!! with my line of work the HC though but thats me. only because apparently an all black knife makes people where i work pissy

Yeah, the blade on that 710 is almost 3/16" shorter than it started out. It's also wearing a nasty mirror polish convex edge now too. I confess I do love that knife.
