Older CRKT Folder Needs Some Love

I've recently gotten into knives as a hobby and I've been tinkering with/cleaning/maintaining the few knives that I have and it's carried over to my dad's knives; some of his knives are more beat up then others. He happens to have an old(er) CRKT 14K Summit Series 'Denali' Folder that was missing a couple of frame screws (which I've since ordered from CRKT's parts replacement form), but more importantly, he bent the tip of the blade (most likely trying to use it as a pry bar 😬🙄). Since the blade steel is a pretty soft 420J2 with an HRC of only 52-55, would it doable to try and rectify this slightly bent tip myself? If so what would be the best way to go about doing it? Thanks in advance.

Depending on the severity of the bend, it might prove impossible to get it back to perfectly straight. I would consider re-profiling the tip. Not only would this remove the bent portion of the tip, but it would produce a thicker, stronger tip. And if your father is likely to use the knife again for prying, a thicker, stronger tip might serve him best (actually, a little pocket screwdriver or mini prybar might serve him best for light prying). If he's going to keep prying with it, bending the tip back will only weaken it and result in more bending, and possibly breakage, the next time he applies lateral pressure to the tip (it sounds like he uses his knives hard).

If the blade is as soft as you suggest, then a regular medium grit file should be enough to re-profile the tip.

Of course I haven't seen the knife, how badly the tip is bent, or how far down the blade the bend exists, so this was just a blind suggestion.

Thanks for the insight. Since I've never reprofiled a blade before, guess I'll be heading back to the internet to look that up!:friendly_wink: Here's a picture of the blade tip so you and others know what it looks like/how severe it is:
