Older gold colored ceramic grinding belts??

I found some older 2x72 belts from the early 2000's I think; they have a gold colored ceramic abrasive around 60 or 80 grit, but the back of the belt is worn, so I can't read the name. Does anyone remember what these may be or what the currently equivalent may be? They worked really nicely on AEB-L at 61 rockwell. I want to say they were 3M (I used a lot of 3M and some Norton back then), but I don't see anything currently that looks the same, but they may have been discontinued/replaced?

I don't recall 3M ever having gold colored abrasive but Norton's ceramic abrasive is kind of a gold color, as is Dynabrade's.

i had some 3m belts that were tan colored maybe 5 years ago, but i cannot find them anywhere now.

I think those are the 3m 967 ceramic. Looks like they changed the color to brick red, but at my age my memory is not that good.
Scott at Tru-grit would know.

Yes, 3M967's were gold. I would test them while standing to the side of te grinder. The splice on old belts don't hold up well. IIRC, 3M only lists a 1 year shelf life.

Thanks for the info! I was surprised at how well they held up to grinding so far; the 60 grit ground hardened AEB-L really nice and clean and I used them to grind out a couple more blades, too.

Yeah, the 3m 967's were yellow. Heck of a good belt. Once they changed the formulation, the current red/brown 967's are not near as good. I've started using the 984's instead, but I really liked the old yellow 967's better.

Ok, good to know! Getting ready to grind a bunch of blades back from HT. I have some VSM belts and other belts around, so I am seeing what belts I like since I have been out of the game for several years and things have changed a lot!

Belt gave up the ghost today! Saw the belt start wobbling, tape splice finally let go. I reground 2 AEB-L blades (60-61 rockwell), 2 1095 blades (unhardened), a S30V 7.5" Santoku at 61 rockwell and reground a Japanese san Mai gyuto before the splice went. Need to order more belts soon!
