Input would be appreciated. I have a 15.5" HI Khukuri with the HI script signature on the right side of the blade, forward of the shoulder. Comparing it to my 16.5" AK I see these differences:
1) there is a 1/4" band around the bottom of the horn handle, decorated with vines and leaves; 2) The bolster is of the older/traditional style; 3) diamond-shaped keeper; 4) TAPERED TANG rather than pana butta; 5) less-pronounced central ring on handle; 6) 11.5 mm (7/16")thick blade (vs. 9 mm for 16.5" AK); 7) 10.5" blade has totally convex edge; 8) two fullers at top of first half of blade are PERFECT - like cut with precision machine; 9) overall workmanship (esp. cho) is superior; 10) frog is not laced at front and is attached to loops with four rivets rather than sewn. NO KAMI MARK.

What is this beauty?

To be clear, the two large, shallow fullers are also slightly different in that the lower one runs almost the entire length of the blade in the mystery khuk.

Others who have been around longer than me can answer better. But we saw one recently that people said came from the old Shop #1. It's a terrible khukuri and you should send it to me immediately!;) :D

Thomas it's definitely a Shop 1 model and they were excellently done!!!!
If you can elucidate a bit more on the blade as to width, more than one fuller, where does the fuller(s) start and end and the like we might be able to nail it down for you. Right now it sounds like you're describing a Sirupati.

Yvsa, I am crushed - crushed - to think I canna' trust ferguson, a fellow Scot.

Proportions of mystery Khuk are those of an AK, not a Siru (blade is: 2 1/16" wide at belly/ 10 3/4" long/ 7/16" thick). Fullers are just like those on a current HI AK except shallow, broad fuller closest to edge and parallel to edge begins just forward of cho. On the 16/5" Durba AK I have, that fuller starts just before shoulder.

Thomas?

You CAN trust Steve! It sounds like one of those virulent khukuris that only Steve can remedy. He is truly being selfless in his offer.

(disregard Yvsa, he's teasing you.)

Ferguson is a man of high integrity, and always sends me a kick-back on these deals.

Nice catch.

Steve is a real Scotsman and like all Real Scotsmen he Can be trusted.:)
My great grandfather on my dad's mother's side was named Ames and was Scots/Irish. He's the one who married my full blood Cherokee grandmother Bethina Thomas.:) There's lots and lots of Cherokee who are also Scots/Irish, me included.:)
It's hell bein' a "breed" sometimes;)

Back to the kukri!!!! Thomas indeed a nice catch!!!! Bill sent a 15" AK for my first one, but I already had my heart and sight's set on an 18" AK which I bought just as Shop 2 and KBR as well as a serial number became the norm.
The kami mark's didn't start until the advent of Shop 2 when it started out that they were all marked KBR because the kami didn't know how to write anyone's initial's except his own.
The serial numbers were later dropped in favor of the kami mark's.:)

Well, that didn't work. Can't use "1" as a search perameter and "shop" alone gets far too many hits. Any suggestions about egetting to history of "Shop 1"?

Only 25 hits come up,
but you can get "shop 1" by inserting a * for the space
shop*1

Curses, foiled again! As others have said, you have a nice one there!

Besides the Fergusons, my grandmother was a Weir. All of her brothers were born in Scotland. She was the first one born in the US.

Steve

Here's one thread with some pics of a BIG Shop 1 AK.

Steve, thanks for the link. That's the decorated butt all right, except on a smaller, non-engraved example with a hone handle.
