About four or so years ago, I bought an iPod Touch, generation 3 something or other I believe. Last year, I received a message from Apple on my iPod that my current version would not sync anymore with my iPhone 4S. A couple months ago I upgraded to an iPhone 6S. I've been downloading music and podcasts to my iPhone 4S, even though I have the 64GB model 6S. I was manually downloading songs from iTunes to my iPod, but now, instead of Download being an option, I receive a message that states Purchased. So, since I upgraded my phone, I removed all of the podcasts from my iPod, and keep just music on there. I know I know, why so many devices if the 6S does everything for me. I paid 200 bucks for the iPod, and want to utilize it until it gives up the ghost. The only reason I download to the 4S is because the iPod will freeze, it might be the fact that I updated the software, most recent update is I believe the iOS 8 series that comes with the new iPhones. The 4S syncs with the 6S, although today I decided to download all of my music to the 6S, instead of burning through data listening to my music library. Another reason why I want to update my iPod. iTunes WIFI Sync doesn't work, and it looks like I'll have to download iTunes to my computer, and manually move all of the music from the Cloud to my iPod. This entire headache could be taken care of by purchasing a new iPod, but I don't want to.

One of my buddies said he didn't have to deal with this crap with his Android phone or tablet. I know that's an option, but I just want to put all of my music on my iPod. Any ideas are appreciated. I hope my ramblings make sense.

You need to know what you're dealing with, and "generation 3 something or other I believe" isn't good enough. Look on the back toward the bottom for the model number. iPod Touch 2nd Gen is model number A1288. iPod Touch 3nd Gen is model number A1318. iPod Touch 4th Gen is model number A1367.

A1288 can run iOS 4.2. A1318 can run iOS 5.1.1. A1367 can run iOS 6.1.3, but it but does not support Maps, Siri, Panorama, or FaceTime over cellular. Your old iPod Touch is freezing because you installed iOS 8. You are trying to put two pounds of baloney in a one pound bag.

You need to downgrade to an older version of iOS. Apple does not support downgrading that far back, so don't expect much help from Apple. Instructions and resources are online, and you can find them if you look. It is not rocket science, but IMO it is not for a computer novice. I have never done it. You could make an appointment with an Apple Store Genius. Depending on the Genius, you might be told to buy a new iPod Touch, or where to look online for downgrade instructions.
