By a stroke of good luck I managed to snag an older khukuri several days ago. Its quite an interesting khuk at that. The khukuri is a 1995 vintage Newari Artform khukuri that was made for HI. These artform khukuris were made and carved/engraved by Kathmandu Valley Newaris; they were strictly meant for display only IIRC and weren't covered by the HI guarantee.

My mom's on a cruise with the camera until Sunday, so it'll be a few days before I can take any pics. There are a few pics of the artform khuk in the thread where it was being offered for sale:

The Newari khukuri is about 15 3/8" long overall. The AK style blade is 5/16" thick and completely engraved. The blade's right side sports two dragons facing each other on either side of three mountains below crisscrossed Nepali flags while the left side has the flags and different decorations including two fish and a flower. The spine has an attractive pattern engraved on it as well.

The handle is about 4 5/8" from bolster to buttcap, made of carved bone. The carving includes a Buddhist statue on either side of the lower handle half, a conch shell, and a bird. The handle is very pretty and feels good in the hand. The color of the bolster and buttcap compliments the bone of the handle.

The scabbard is nice enough. The karda and chakma seem to be there just as additional decoration, more specifically the handles; as the k and c blades are crudely done and rather tiny.

All in all this is a very nice addition to my collection of HIs. Hopefully Yangdu will add to the story of the Newari khuks.

Sweet looking khuk. I'm no expert on the old ones, but that one sure looks like a winner to me...

Very nice Bob! Beautiful carving and engraving on that one. Nice addition to your HI trove!

Thank you so much for sharing the wonderful descriptions written by Uncle Bill for the Khukuri Knives you have. I wish I had his ability with words.
We no longer carry those particular Khukuri Knives and I am so sorry I do not have any additional information on them.
