Older Remington barlow

I picked up an older Remington barlow (Remington or PAL made, not Camillus or Bear). The main blade is heavily sharpened, and the pen blade is just a little nub. I want to carry this knife though. Can I get the knife taken apart, and remove the remnants of the pen blade, then pin it back together? I would not be doing this, I would be sending it out to someone.
