Older Ruger revolver question

The Security-Six has adjustable sights. The Service-Six and Speed-Six have fixed sights. The differece between the last two is that the Service-Six has a square butt and the Speed-Six has a round butt.

What is the difference between the Service-Six and the Security-Six?

One has adjustable sights, the other does not. I think the Service-Six was fixed sight, but as it has been twenty years since I looked at them, I could be wrong.

Bruceter nailed it.

I have to admit that I looked the information up in the Ruger book by RL Wilson.

It is a great book for Ruger fans, lots of information and cool pic's.

I believe, also, that the round butted Speed Six was only available in the shorter 2 3/4" length, while the
square butted Service Six was only available in 4".

And the square butted, adjustable sighted Security Six was available in all 3 lengths, the 6", 4" and 2 3/4"

As I recall, anyway, as I don't need to look it up ! :D

.

By the way, great revolvers.

Very much so. I forgot the barrel lengths and I didn't remember the round and squared off butts until Bruceter mentioned it. My memory sucks. :o I do remember the 2-3/4 and 4". Thats what I saw most of the time. Don't know if I every saw the 6".

Thanks for the pick -- the old school square butt frames on smiths and rugers makes my heart go pitter patter. Hmm, did I just type that?

The Ruger security six stainless was the first firearm I ever bought.
I was just a kid.
Still have it.

Ah, but if you had looked it up you would know that the Speed-Six was available with a 4" barrel, and in the Service-Six was only offered with a 4" barrel. :D

Clearly that source is wrong !!! ;)

(actually, I'd been wondering about that very version, as I'd been having a nagging "I seem to recall a 4" round butt version" bouncing around in my head......)

Zen,

If you are interested in knowing when that was made, e-mail me and I will look it up for you.
