was in a local 99 cent store and saw an imperial schrade bread knife on card. it was clearly marked made in taiwan yet on the card it had the imperial schrade guarentee and address in ellenville ny . I didn't know schrade farmed out their stuff. did they do that often?

Imperial had their kitchenwares and tablewares made in many different countries. At one time, they were the nation's largest seller/producer/importer of these goods. It would be a huge task just to acquire samples of all of their patterns of flatware.
You will see them marked Japan, Taiwan, Korea, and with several European countries.
