I have acquired a display that has all of the original knives(the ones hung in the viewing panel. No boxed inventory). By reading the "Tang Stamp" thread it looks like the knives are from 46-73. Is there a way to narrow the dates down further by looking at the style of display case or any other methods? And is there a way to estimate value on this...not looking to sell, but would like to know what I have. Also, from sitting in storage for 20some years some of the knives are showing a little surface rust. Should I be trying to clean and protect or would that destroy the integrity of these knives being untouched for so long...if that makes any sense. Thanks for the help. Until I figure out how to post pics from tapatalk....I have no pics :(

If someone could help me out I can send pics via txt or email and you could post for me. I can't get it figured out.

To give you an idea anyway the display is approx 2' wide, maybe 4'tall. It has a total of 39 knives +1 sharpening stone/sheath.
6 OT's
5 UH's
13 Razorblade S
15 knives arranged on bottom of display that are a mix of folders and straight knives.

Sounds like some Schrade Walden USA knives, and a big display. The fact there are Uncle Henry and Old Timers puts them into the 1960's. Razor Blade Stainless puts them past 1964 I believe. If they are all Schrade Walden knives, that puts the window between 1964 and 1972. Some of the exact pattern numbers on the back side of the tang stamps of the folders might narrow it down a bit more. As well for the pattern numbers of the fixed blade knives.

I often see knives selling on eBay, listed as made in the USA and “comes with Schrade's Limited Lifetime Warranty.”

The seller goes on to say,
“YOU MAY NOT HAVE HEARD BUT SCHRADE CLOSED ITS DOORS IN JULY 30th 2004. GET THIS NOW BECAUSE WHEN THEY ARE GONE THAT'S IT!!”

I wonder if seller thinks the knife manufactures that “CLOSED ITS DOORS” will open their "DOORS" to warrant his knives he is selling ?

Say what?

A bubble in the space/time continuim. It happens. Waiting for photos. I love a good display.

Holy smokes.. Pictures are in.

1967-72 on first look. Might be able to narrow it down a bit with a close look at some of the patterns. Certainly is well filled!

'72 was the last for that, was it not? And I see it first in my '71 catalog. In '73 it had the flat pommel. I don't have Robert's book handy right now though.

Thank you to everyone that has added input and commentary on the subject. I really enjoy reading your comments. If you have any other questions or would like any specific photos I'd be happy to help.

Holy smokes is right! That's a lot of vintage Schrade!

I think the birds head 171 UH is for sure the way to date it. Right now that means 1971 or 1972 but what's the serial number on it? Is the handle a one piece or two piece delrin assembly?

I just re-digested everything here on the 171 UH and there were some great posts. tobyrogers pointed out the details I mentioned.
