I found an older Schrade in the bottom of my gun safe..forgotten for about 25 years. It is a 51OT single blade lock back with brown derlin scales. It is mint, in the plastic bag with cosmoline, in the original box with sheath, in the shipping sleeve from factory. I'd appreciate any information any of you can give me with regard to collectibility and opinion on value. I do not collect Schrade other than the Schrade/D'Holder fixed blades, so this one will wind up for sale or trade. Thanks

51OT Big Timer LB Bulldog Welcome to the Schrade Collectors Forum Sheathmaker. Your knife was produced in 1978-81, so it is not real common. It originally sold for around $30.00 and was offered with a sheath. It has been called a Bulldog and Sunfish but officially it is a Big Timer. A couple of these appear on ebay each week and they seem to sell in the $50 - $100 range depending on condition, whether or not it has the sheath and box, etc.

Hey Paul...good to see you made it.....

I knew you'd get some good information here. To purloin from the PGA....."These guys (and sometimes Debbie.. ;) ) are good."

Well done Codger!

Bill

Codger, El Lobo, Many thanks to you guys for the information. That was quick too! I guess I remembered right when I said it had been in the gun safe about 25 years. Now all I need to do is find someone interested in the knife and sell it or trade it. Thanks again for the help.

Welcome to the forum, Sheathmaker! Bill, you know this guy? Do you know what you've dragged him into?

Phil

Actually, I just conversed with him on another forum.

I suggested he bring his question here to "Uncle Henry's Lost Souls"......and the fountain of information of all types that is shared here. I see he mentioned Schrade/D'Holder knives (put up a picture of the GREENIE!), so he knows the good stuff, I surmise.

I have not discussed The Duke, The King, The Maidens, ping pong balls, socks, or even Ireland. Let alone FOLDERS or fixed blades.

I hope he enjoys it here if he chooses to participate. The search button will tell the story for a little while longer, I suppose. Then it's up to all of us to create some new adventures moving forward.

Looks like this will be a fun forum after all. I spend a lot of time on KnifeNet, and Knife Forums, because they both have forums dedicated to sheath making and leather work. I have become a knife accumulator headed rapidly toward knife collector by default. I frequently find myself taking knives in payment for my leather work. I make sheaths for several of the top and up and coming custom makers, both folders and fixed blade. Ther's quite a bit of my work shown on Knet, and of course, I go by "sheathmaker" on both of those forums also. I'll be checking back in here frequently because like I said it looks like a fun place to be. If any of you guys have any sheath needs "I'm here for you". Cheers

I have seen some of Paul's work.....I can tell you it is TOP notch..

We do try to have a good, enjoyable, informative forum here. We are rarely off topic.....whatever it may be... :D

Paul,

Since you mentioned Schrade/D'Holders, and Phil gets mad at me when I ask him to post pictures of this beauty...... :o
Here is a thread from awhile ago showing a real beauty (first post and picture).....downright awesome!

It would look good in that Rattleskin inlay sheath you made... :D

Don't be mad Phil....I'm just jealous of the nice knife..... :)

Bill

Lobo! That green knife is just begging for one of those rattler inlay sheaths. You need to take Phil over to Knet and show him the sheath, or better yet, talk him into selling me that knife. I've got that exact same pattern in stag, serial 0460, and I've got the Ram #460 and the Grizzly #333. There's also a White tail but I understand only 50 to 65 of those got produced...and there's also an Elk which is part of the millenium set which what Phil's knife is I believe, BUT I don't know for sure. My stag knife is part of the Millenium set also. I guess Phil and I can go off in a corner and be confused together. Any way that green knife is just about the purdiest thin I ever saw.

I just went back to look at the green knife again and reread Phil's post. My stag is a 2000 yr model and I believe your maple is also.

More edit: Phil go to http://www.comp-cons.com/SchradeCollections.htm
scroll down to Millenium series. I learned more here in 5 minutes
than I had in the past year.

Paul

Paul,

The Schrade D'holder Millenium series had only three knives, Stag, Maple Burl and Green Maple. (BTW, none had a "thong hole"!).

The Schrade D'Holder Anniversary Series was to have five knives, but actually only four were ever produced. The last of these was the Whitetail and only 65 were produced with 52 being signed and numbered (stamped and etched) and 13 being "clear". The Elk was the third of the series and again, there were supposedly less than 300 ever actually produced. D'Alton Holder made only 10 handmade prototypes of each of these (actually, I'm unsure if he made prototypes of the Elk, since I've never seen nor heard of one).
Del

Hey Del! Thanks for jumping in and saving my hide. I am confused again though. I went back to the web site and the Millennium Set pictured there all seem to have thong holes.

Paul

Paul,

Yes, I was mistaken - they do indeed. I must have been thinking of the Anniversary series. :-(((((
