Does anyone prefer the older thicker slabbed sebenzas to the new 21's? I have a chance to buy an older sebenza, it looks like a "P" but without the "P" marking, so that means that it is newer than the P's right? I have never handled an old sebenza with the thicker slabs, will it kick my small micarta out of my pocket?

I like the old stuff but all the thick ones to my knowlage had an H or a P with or without serial # post a pic if you can but if its what you want and the price is right you canr go wrong...

The 'H" series were numbered for example, H12, H13, H14,etc. These have the thick scale slabs and were handmade by Chris. (H for handmade not a CNC) A while back a dealer quoted a price of $1,000.00 for one that he had. These are the first and very early Sebenzas. I don't know if any of the H series were not numbered. I was told by a collector that the "P" series indicates that it is a production model The "PP's are Pre Production.

so what is the sebenza in the link? it doesn't have a H or a P but it looks to have thicker scales than the new 21's.

With the S30V blade, it's either a 21 or it's a pre-Regular that lost its BG-42 blade in a swap. That doesn't seem likely, so I'd guess it is a 21.

From what I can tell from the pictures, it's an original Sebenza, made between 1994 (when CR stopped putting the "P" on them) and the introduction of the Regular in 1996. The slabs should be very nearly the same as the current plain version. The blade should be ATS-34, have hand rubbed flats, and highly polished hollows.

I've thought about getting that one, even though it's a lefty.

that blade looks like ATS34 its got a shine to it... but if I were you I would delete the Ebay listing someone might see it and snatch it up before you do. also I thought it was a violation to post Ebay listings??

The scales shouldn't actually be thicker, per another members measurements. They might look or feel thicker due to how the edges are beveled, but my understanding is that they are not any thicker. Unless you're talking about the H vs. P ones, I'm not sure about those.

The thing is that the description says S30V, so the seller is either (1) mistaken or (2) has done a blade swap.

Its got a pretty good shine, looks like ats to me but you could ask the seller to pull the blade and look for the S.. I didnt think the old ats knives had pocket clips

Is the this sebenza worth it? Does it have a higher aftermarket value?

Is it a violation? and the auction is over, the seller sent me a second chance offer so only I can buy it. Should I take it down?

It's a violation to deal spot, posting a listing for information is fine.

It is possible that the seller could be mistaken, he does say that it is a classic sebenza so maybe that he thought it was the same as the modern classic sebbies and just googled what type of steel it is.

speaking of older sebenza's I got me one today in the mail I will post photos soon....until then think Ats-34
