Hello,

I have a question for those more knowledgeable than myself. I have two Spyderco Fine Benchstones and one Ultra Fine. I have always heard that the edges and corners on the Fine were chamfered while on the Ultra Fine they were left sharp.

But my older Fine, although thicker than my Ultra Fine, also has the same sharp edges and corners.

Was this a mistake at the factory, or was there an earlier time when even the Fine stones were left "sharp"?

Thanks,

John

I have 5 Spyderco Benchstones. Two of them I've had for a very long time. I have one fine and one ultra-fine that I've had since 2003 and neither one of them are chamferred. Both of my medium stones are chamferred and my newest fine stone is also chamferred.

I don't know when the cutoff/transition date for the chamfering on the stones took place but it had to have at least been around 2002 to 2001 or maybe earlier. The fine one that I got in 03 had been on the dealer's shelf for a very long time he told me which is why I got it for $10 I guess.

I do think that the chamfer is ultimately an advantage but I've had very good luck using the un-chamferred stones. If anyone knows anything I would appreciate it.
