Hello,

I have a question for those more knowledgeable than myself. I have two Spyderco Fine Benchstones and one Ultra Fine. I have always heard that the edges and corners on the Fine were chamfered while on the Ultra Fine they were left sharp.

But my older Fine, although thicker than my Ultra Fine, also has the same sharp edges and corners.

Was this a mistake at the factory, or was there an earlier time when even the Fine stones were left "sharp"?

Thanks,

John

John,

I have a really old set of Spyderco bench stones from 1982-83, and the edges are sharp on both the medium and the fine. The corners that are ~1/2" high are radiused about 1/16" on the medium and sharp on the fine. All the long edges on both stones are square, but not truly sharp, not like a knife edge, but the radius is too small to see unaided. It is like what you get when you break the corners lightly with sandpaper on a block of wood. The fine's edges are sharper than the medium's are.

So they come chamfered now? Sounds like a good idea.

Bill
