Hey there all,
Regretably I have yet to own any Spyderco's myself but my interest has been peaked so forgive me if this is a fairly commonsense question. Anyway, I recently found a local store that has a small selection including the Endura, Catcherman, Cricket and SS Delica. While handling them I noticed that they were all the older models. For example, the Endura was stamped Seki Japan and the blade was ATS 55. All of the knives were priced the same as their more recent editions and what I was wondering was if they are worth it? Take it easy.

From a "user" standpoint, the general rule would be that newer, more modern steel is always better than whatever it replaced. Colllectors "sometimes" think otherwise. So, in my opinion, the Catcherman may be worth a premium to a collector. The others I would doubt, unless the Cricket is something other than SS, then it too may interest collectors.

I agree, the Endura is probably not worth as much as a new one and I don't think it has any collector value, same for the SS Delica. The Catcherman is not made anymore and is worth probably $50 so if it is less than that, it may be a good buy. In Canada, prices may be different.

Get that Catcherman. If you don't get it then let me know the phone number of this store so I can order it. Also is the Catcherman a yellow or a black handled one. If it is yellow you will certainly regret not getting it. I agree with Deacon on the other knives. Unless the Cricket is one with a Carbon Fiber handle I would pass on it too unless the price is really dirt cheap.

Start watching Ebay and it will give you a fairly good idea of what is being sought after. Good Luck

Thanks for the info folks. To answer some questions the Catcherman is the black handled model with the MBS-36 blade and the Cricket has the ATS 55 blade with the FRN handle slabs. The prices here in Canada do differ significantly for example a VG10 Endura retails for approximately $80 Can. and the Cricket for about $50 Can. Take it easy.

Hmmm, prices are pretty "different " here in SA too :(

I think the Catcherman and the FRN Cricket are both worth looking at.

Hey there, thanks again for the info. I ended up "catching the catcherman" for 79 Canadian, turns out its the older aus-8 version but the lock up is solid and theres absolutely no bladeplay which really impresses me. Passed on the cricket though. Cheers.
