One of the very first Benchmade knives I got is still one of my very favorites. I got a model 640 Phil Boguszewski Spike back around 1997 and I still have it. I still carry it from time to time on occasion and I also have it's big brother the model 650 which is a bigger version of the same knife. Every time I see one of the 640 or 650 Benchmade Boguszewski Spike models go up on Ebay or any other exchange forum they tend to draw a lot of attention.

I know I'm not alone being a fan of the model 640 & 650 Boguszewski Spike and I was wondering 2 things about them:: First of all are there any possibilities of a new Spike model being made in newer/better blade steel. The original models were made with ATS-34 and were very good all purpose blades. Also there was an automatic version of the knife known as the Benchmade model 1000 auto-Spike. It came in several different colors and has become quite a collector piece in its own rite.

I know there are probably many of you here that share my love for these great past BM models. I do remember that all of the Boguszewski Spikes were available in different colored handles and are getting quite difficult to find in various colors. Oh how I would love a new revamped version of that great old Benchmade classic. So tell me about the ones you all have????

The 640 Mini-Spike was my first Benchmade when I was in college back in the 90's. This knife still holds a special place in my heart.

I know what you mean Brother :) Because I feel the same exact way. There is something really special about the Boguszewski Spike model. I loved the 640, 650 and the Auto 1000 all 3. I own all of them and I would sure like to see the model 640 back in production again with newer and better blade steel and maybe even a new handle material like Titanium instead of the aircraft aluminum. But I would really love a 640 model made with D-2 blade steel and a Titanium handle. >> and I would love some nice new colors for the handle as well.

There is something really timeless about the model 640 Boguszewski Spike model. You just have to own one to know what we're talking about.

Maybe an update to a titanium framelock with M390 blade steel.

That's a superb idea "BooBar" To upgrade the handle from aircraft grade aluminum to Titanium is just what I kind of had in mind. And to make a new blade with one of the newer Supersteels is also what I think would bring this model back in the forefront. For those of us who have owned and used one of these great Phil Boguszewski Spike models you can only have good things to say about them.

There are a lot of the older BM models I would like to see back in the main line up but this would be a great place to start.

holy crap. I just looked up the 650 and I really like that! Agreed that an updated re-issue would be amazing.

You Betcha!! and everyone else I know that sees the BM models 640 & 650 all seem to love that model as well. It's been so long since those models were in the main line up that few of the new knife generation we have here on BF now even know that the 640 or 650 even existed

The knife looks so simplistic in some ways but it's truly one of the most functional folders I've owned in the past 15 years. I'm carrying my model 640 today and it's one great EDC.

I've heard that Phil Boguszewski's custom blades are doing quite well on that market. It would truly be great to see those folders back on the main line up again.

Axis lock, dual thumb studs, & titanium. This needs to happen.

I have a mini & a large one I bought too hastily off of Ebay. It seems to be a cobbled-together frankenstein someone purloined piecemeal from the factory. No clip, the blade is unsharpened, some of the screw holes weren't threaded & they failed to get the stop pin holes tapped straight so the lock opens all the way to the right (the frame is ruined). I sent it to Benchmade with hat in hand & a willingness to pay whatever. They replaced the scales with new, properly tapped ones left over from their last remaining stock, put an edge on the blade, & charged me nothing despite this being way outside of a reasonable warranty issue.

I'll be buying a guilt-free user soon enough & enjoying the knowledge that I have a spare everything for it.

That's Benchmade for you, great story. Got pics of the newly restored beauty?
