I was Remembering the offerings of Crescent Moon Sirupates when i was reading thru the Archives (which i've finally finished ,WHEW!) as they were offered not too long after i showed up here, , and wishing i had been able to grab one of those beauties.
Theres a bit of Older special stuff in the Archives. Stuff i'd like to see come around again. Like the Scrimshaw Handles and the Carved ones, the Hunting Knife and Fishing Knife,Sgian Dubh Munk Chunk Cleaver,Large and regular YCS Karda's and others. All beautiful works that are rarely seen and seldom known, Especially to us newer folk.

There are plenty of how to's and such in there, that are like reading the manual of H.I. as it was being written.
Great stuff like the File knives that Syvrflcn makes...and the Po' boy Puuko thread. His inspiration of Fiddleback and the knives Andy went on to make.
Munks Musings, Yvsa's helpful Hints and just plain old good times, great posts and comraderie.

It seems that this forum and H.I. in general had plenty of good times and some bad spots in between ( that shouldnt be dwelled upon much, but learned from.) I learned alot in there and the things i learned about humbleness, humility, caring, sharing and friendship will always be with me.

It makes me Glad that we still have some of the older members with us, but also sad that some have left for whatever reasons, but to each his own......I only wish the ones who are still among the living would come by and grace us new folk once in awhile. (Maybe thats a bit selfish on my part). I also know the ones that arent will never be forgotten here.

It seems to me that while things have progressed to a different level here, things havent changed all that much and thats a good thing and something to be proud of.

It's nice to see a new Falcata drop into a DOTD for us, thank you Yangdu and Kami's.

Here are a few of examples of my personal favorites from past DOTD's. and threads, there are others but i'll let the rest of you decide what else may get posted.

feel free to post yours in this thread.

Karda,
That is some very Good archival work and heartwarming. I am happy when I read Uncle Bills words. And this is such a long cold wynter, sometimes oppressive. Having a nice uplift sure does nourish my soul:)

Thanks for investing the time.

Mark

the one annoyance I find when reading them is when the photo's are no longer present. :(

About a year ago I started collecting photos of some of the rarer HI, at the time I started I was able to go back to around 2002 and get photos, but before that they were lost. Anyway here are some of them http://s41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/SkylerR04/Rare HI kukris and knives/?start=all

My two favorates from that would have to be the Bura folder and the executioner sword.

Nice Skyler!!!!
Theres a few there that i've never seen before.
and some like the R-10 that arent so rare anymore.... hopefully we'll see more of the little known pieces someday.

I'm sure there will be many who very much appreciate your efforts and kindness in sharing them. :)

No problemo Mark.
Uncle once said "what we do for others,we really do for ourselves."
Theres alot of truth in that statement.
I began reading to satisfy my urge to know all i could about this man i never knew and about this place and to try to find a way to be closer to his kind of truth. To be able to explain well to people who come after me why this man and his beliefs are held in such high regard.
I came away feeling even closer to this family of ours and also found that i may tend to be more native american and buddhist in my beliefs, rather than the protestant and christian beliefs that i was brought up with.
a sort of revelation in self realization for me i guess.... and if i can help others with this knowledge, well, that is a good thing in it's own.
I'm glad that there are others who feel the same as i do about reading the old stuff and still listen to what Uncle said, if you listen well you can clearly see the man spoke from the heart and only wished the best for all in his own way, as did Rusty. There is much they both taught us forumites there about life lessons thru personal experience and thru his religious experiences that if one listens and takes to heart, can only serve to make us better people and kinder to our earth and it's population of critters and humans alike. Kinda the same things i felt when i read "the dreamer" and "songs of the sand country"
I only wish i had experienced it first hand, as the oldtimers were able to. But getting myself away from a bad life and helping my parents on their way west took precedence at the time....plus i wasnt even on the net until late 2004.
I guess it's all relative and as long as you believe in a creator and try to be a good person all around you've got a better start than most.

I also wanted to know about and see all the wonderful past DOTD's:D
