I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with thses knives. Ive heard the steel is supposed to be quite a bit better than 8cr13mov.
Trying to get my collection started back as i only have a few knives due to having to sell most of them last year

Last year I tried one of the new China made Schrades, an 858OTB with bone handles. Nice knife, well worth the price. I used it to clean a whitetail I shot and it held up fine. Now, one deer is not a huge chore, but it is a good knife: solid, comfortable and effective.

Nice lookong knife. Ive always had a handful of oldtimers in my collection. Think i will try one of them. Ive always tried to buy usa made, but im beimg priced out of buyin us products. I carry a case and buck everyday, just need to chamge it up a bit

The Taylor made (China) OldTimers with genuine bone scales are in 9Cr18mov and perform very well IMHO. I have four different ones and all are fine made and good cutters. IMO the "Taylor" knives made by whatever company bought him out aren't worth a nickle; weird designs, etc.

I would save my pennies and buy a used USA made one on the big auction site.

You can find usa schrades for quite cheap. Sometimes it takes a little patience but it is well worth it. I'm talking you can find great condition 8ot's and such for less than $20. The china knives are not bad, but every one of those that is bought over a usa schrade continues to bury the legacy of american schrades. I will do what I can to not let that happen, and the american ones are just better.

I, too, agree.

To be clear, I’m not casting aspersions on anyone else’s choices. There are some great knives being made in China; for example, I have a couple of Boker Urban Trappers that are are of excellent quality.

But when it comes to the “traditional” knives that our grandparents carried *I* want *mine* to be made in the States. Others’ mileage may vary, and that’s perfectly fine with me.

There are indeed some great bargains to be found. The knife pictured below (while not a Schrade, it was made under the Imperial-Schrade umbrella) cost me a whopping $10, and it came to me brand new in its 42 year old box.

I checked the bay and as I type this there are a ton of well priced usa delrin schrades in good condition. The pickings are good right now. Matter of fact I just stumbled onto one that I had to get. :D

The thing about the delrin schrades is they were made for many years and they made TONS of them, they will be available for years to come. There are some patterns that were only made a short time and are harder to find but none are truly rare.

Shhhhhh, Frailer. Don't mention the Frontiers or Craftsman knives made by Imperial Schrade. Some of us bottom feeders want to keep the prices low and within reach on these top quality knives.
