The Olight S10R III is an upgrade to the classic S10. It runs on a single CR123A or RCR123A battery. Using the magnetic charging cable or base, you can keep the light fully charged and at the ready when not in use. I do like the charging feature, although it does have some drawbacks that I will talk about later.
First, Otter’s 4 Paws of Applause

Bezel and Glow Oring. Olight has started using all blue hardware and bezels in their lights. I really like these touches, they make give the flashlight a very attractive and clean look. My old S15 baton featured the blue glow o-ring, and this new S10R brings back that o-ring. It gives you the ability to find the light in the dark if you need it. A quick on for a few seconds is all you need to charge it up. Even though it is a small detail, it is a great feature on a great little light.

Lockout. THe S10R III features the lockout mode that I have come to appreciate on my lights. Not only does the light lock out to avoid accidental turn ons, it also alerts you of this feature with a small red led in the switch. I love being able to lock the light out before putting it in my pocket. There have been many times in the past that I have burned my leg or burned out the batteries in a light due to accidental turn ons.

Size. This light is very small, but not too small. Even though my S1R is smaller that this light, the S1R is almost too small. I will gladly sacrifice a bit of size if the light makes up for it in brightness. The S10R III has a max brightness of 600 lumens, while the S1R has a max of 900. I will usually carry the S1R in pocket, while leaving the S10R III in my bag as a backup light.

Lens and LED. The S10R III has a well centered Luminus SST-40 LED. This light utilizes a classic glass lens, unlike the TIR floody optic on the S1R. I do prefer the glass lens on the S10R. It gives the light a bright hotspot, which I do prefer in some situations. The lens also prevents dirt and lint from collecting around the LED, which happens often in the optics of my S1R and S2.

I have taken the S10R III out on some night hikes and used it quite a bit. It has come in useful during its time as my main carry light. I do like the larger size, it fits my large hands better without fumbling for the switch. The beam is decent, the tint does have a slight purple color. The hotspot is clean and circular with no interference. I have had the light short out once or twice, but that is a price you have to pay for the quick charging base. Personally, I have no problem taking the battery out to charge, but that’s just me. I prefer simple things that work as they should and I don’t have to worry about malfunctioning.

I took the light mountain biking with me yesterday night after school and it worked great. Moonlight mode is perfect for my night time bullet journaling. Just bright enough to read/write, without being too harsh and hurting your eyes and glaring off the white page.

No review is complete without some negative points. My biggest gripe is the short out. I have had a few issues and have had to remove the battery to manually reset the light. This doesn’t happen much, but when it does, it is annoying. My second and last negative point is the brightness level. THe max lumen output for the S10R III is 600 lumens. That is a lot of light, but the S1R is smaller and hits 900 lumens on Turbo S mode. If the S10R had a Turbo mode of 800+ lumens, I’d be happy. High is great at 600, but sometimes you just need a bit more power.

I put the S10R III in the molle of my Rush 12 or in the internal organizer. It makes a good backup light. I give it 5 out of 5 clams. If it did not have the lockout or glow o-ring, it would have received 4, especially due to the short out possibility.
