Are these oils okay for oiling blades to prevent rust and general maintenance? I did a brief search and it seemed to suggest that any oil is mostly okay. I just looked in the pantry and those were the ones readily available, plus they're food-safe because I sometimes cut food with my knives.

Thanks!

Those cooking oils go rancid with time .... I would use mineral oil which is food safe.

Don't use vegetable based oils, as was said above, they'll go gooey in time.
Use a mineral based oil, motor oil, sewing machine oil, even Vaseline...

Food-grade mineral oil. Use it on your cutting boards, wooden spoons, etc. as well.

I wouldn't necessarily want vaseline, motor oil, etc. in my food.

Motor oils?- No.
Vaseline - OK...it's just high viscosity mineral oil.

I use olive oil on my blades and 3-in-1 for the pivot points, it's not the greatest oil but it is still better than nothing, I haven't had olive oil go rancid, you only put a small amount and wipe off the excess.

Go to a butcher supply store and buy a quart of mineral oil. Way cheaper than the drugstore per ounce, and you can do ALL your knives and cuttingboards spoons, etc. for years with no worries. I always take a small bottle in the bush.
