My father recently passed away, and among the bevy of cheap and semi-decent knives floating around his house, I came across what seems to be an older, custom fixed blade. Its’s stamped OLSON, and seems well made. Nice file work in the spine and brass guard. Some sort of horn for the handle, which is painted on one side.
I was able to find a little bit of info on a Montana knife maker named Joe Olson, who mostly does custom folders, but started out making fixed blades. Of the few I can find, this definitely matches his style, so I’m assuming it’s his work.
the question is, does anyone know about when this would have been made? Is it rare at all? And does it have any value? I know the rules, not asking what it’s worth, just if it might have an actual value based on the maker’s reputation or age/rarity/etc. - or if it’s just good for a wall hanger for my nephew.
Any info would be appreciated. And now, the prerequisite pic….
