I am sitting here watching the opening of the Olympics, and thought I would ask some trivia questions that relate to the Modern Olympics.

Traditionally, what sport receives the first medal in the Summer Olympics?

What 3 sports traditionally have the most participants?

What is the only sport that appears in both the Summer and Winter Olympics?

What sport did the past President of the International Olympic Committee participate in?

All of these questions have a common thread, and I think you will be very surprised by the answers.

Pat:

You are right on about the Sport, and the first medal awarded. The first medal traditionally goes to the shooting sports. I know that since 1984 the first medal has gone to Women's 10m air rifle. The young lady that won this Gold medal was also the first person to shoot a perfect score of 400 points before finals in this sport.

DB:

You are right. It is shooting in both the Summer and Winter Olympics. Biathalon does have a shooting portion. Pentathalon in the Summer Olympics also has a shooting portion.

i'm just assuming that track/field, and swimming are part of those top 3. shooting would b good too for it (or at least IMO)

Did you hear about the Polish athlete who won a silver medal? He was so proud of it that he took it home and had it bronzed. :D

Sorry about that.:p
